Diphu, December 27 2008:
SEVEN INSURGENTS of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) today joined the mainstream in central Assam's Karbi Anglong district at the end of a deadline set by their former rival group Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) and other Bodo organisations.
The NDFB cadre came overground at a public meeting organised by Ex-Bodoland Liberation Tigers Welfare Society (EBLTWS) and several Bodo community organisations at Langhing on Friday.
The EBLTWS had set a deadline for NDFB cadre in the district to surrender by December 25 following the kidnap of a teacher, Ajit Basumatary, recently.
Those who laid down arms include Lakhiram Basumatary, Jayata Bodo, Maheswar Basumatary, Ganesh Basumatary, Phani Basumatary, Alok Basumatary and Budhiram Narzary.
The BLT after renouncing violence and disbanding on December 6, 2003, took part in elections to take charge of the newly-formed Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) with its leader Hagrama Mohilary heading the civil administration.
