To mark the Golden Jubilee celebration of the 14 Assam Rifles as well as to spread the message of peace and harmony in the North East States, a motor cycle rally has been organised by 14 AR.
The rally team led by Captain RA Raju was flagged off by the Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar at Kanchanpur on December 19, said the PRO of Assam Rifles in a statement today and added that it reached the Headquarters of IGAR (South) at Mantripukhri on December 26 .
The team was then flagged off from 39 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under IGAR (S) for Kohima on December 27 by Wangoi AC MLA Salam Joy Singh, said the PRO.
Flagging of the rally team, the MLA said, 'We may belong to different regions, cultures and religions, but we are one and first of all we are Indians.
We all should come together to bring peace and prosperity to our country, especially in Manipur" .
The MLA also presented a sum of Rs 10,000 to the rally team and wished them success, added the PRO.
The motor cycle rally will cover cities like Agartala, Aizawl, Silchar, Kohima, Dimapur, Guwahati and Shillong before terminating at Kanchanpur on January 4 next year.
Eight CBZ motor cycles were sponsored by Hero Honda Motors Ltd for the rally while the fuel was provided by the IOC.
The rally will cover a distance of 2100 Kms within 16 days, added the statement.
