Participated by college Principals and academic administrators, a one-day workshop on the theme of 'Availing of UGC assistance during XIth plan' was organised by Government College Principals' Council, Manipur at State Guest House here today.
Principal Secretary, Government of Manipur P Sharatchandra and Additional Director of University and Higher Education, Government of India RK Chaoba Singh were respectively chief guest and president of the inaugural function of the workshop which was also attended by Deputy Secretary of UGC NERO SC Ray and former Additional Director of University and Higher Education, Government of Manipur as guests of honour.
Delivering the key note address, secretary governing body of S Kula Women's College, Nambol N Ibomcha informed the gathering that various schemes are being introduced in the XIth plan of the University Grants Commission (UGC) with special emphasis on enhancing the system of imparting education through improved infrastructure, faculties and research works.
So the workshop is being organised to facilitate the college Principals and academic administrators to be aware of these schemes and help in accomplishing the target of UGC, he added.
In his address as chief guest, P Sharatchandra observed that the goal of the XIth Plan of UGC is to remove the existing irregularities and differences in term of development between one region and another and between one society and another.
In the XIth plan, UGC is planning to do away with the traditional system of imparting education with an improved system through which the students can develop their personality and intellectual capacity, he said.
Stressing on the educational model of publicprivate partnership, the officer noted that the college principals and academic administrators need to play a major role in ensuring the success of the UGC schemes.
In the technical session moderated by O Bhogendra Singh, SC Ray spoke on the topic of the workshop.
