Imphal, December 27 2008:
THE OUT Patient Department (OPD) at JN Hospital, Imphal, the biggest state run hospital closed down Saturday causing immense difficulty to the needy people as other districts level hospitals, primary health centres and community health centres also follow the same suit to press the government to implement revised sixth pay.
The OPD will remained closed for the next three day till December 30, according to the officials of the hospital who said that it has been taken up as a part of support to the ongoing cease-work strike of the employees of the Manipur government under the banner of the Joint Administrative Council (JAC), an apex body of the various unions of the government employees.
Mention may be made that working in most of the government departments have been paralyzing since the last one month with the commencement of the cease-work strike from November 27 last demanding adoption of pay structures based on the recommendation of the Sixth Central Pay Commission.
The Joint Committee of the Medical Department Employees Association (MDEA), Family Welfare Department Employees Association ((FWDEA) and Manipur Health Service Officer's Association (MHSOA) had earlier announced to join the ongoing AMTUC/AMGEO cease-strike in a join meeting held on December 18 last.
The OPDs in the state run hospital will open from December 31 for another three day but if the state government does not respond to the demands of the JAC within this period, then the OPDs will again close for another three days from January 2, 2009 onwards.
From January 5, 2009 onwards all inpatients from the hospitals will be discharged apart from taking no admission to fresh patients to the hospital wards, the employees threatened today.
However, casualty and emergency services will remain open, they said.
