Operations related neurosurgery are not performed currently in the two biggest hospitals, RIMS which authority is dreaming of putting up to the level of AIIMS and JN Hospital which the state is planning to convert into a medical college due to the absent of the neurosurgeons.
Even though authorities running the two hospitals opened neurology departments in the both the hospitals, there are no neurosurgeons and as such no treatment on head injuries including checking of blood pressure were not performed.
Many who turned up in these hospitals are found referring to the private hospitals.
The process is nothing but to wait for dead for the poor people who could not effort the huge amount require as fee for going to the private hospitals or clinic.
At the JN Hospital since the only neurosurgeon Dr.Motilal has been promoted to the post of director, the vacant post of the neurosurgeon of the neurology department is not yet filled up.
On the other hand, RIMS superintendent, Dr.Y Mohen said that there is no expert in neurology in the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
Owing to this absent no operation with neurology perform in the hospital.
The problems of having shortest of neurosurgeons in the state has been facing in the institute since long back and Specialists from outside also not willing to serve in the state in the backdrop of prevailing law and order situation, he added.
With no neurosurgeon in the state run hospital, patients are going to the private hospitals specially to the
Shija Hospital.
The hospital also has only one specialist in this field.
In this hospital only Dr.Khongbantabam Biyash is attending patient related with the nerves problems.
While performing neurosurgery, a patient requires Rs.30,000 to 50,000 without the cost of the medicine needed for the operation.
Rs.1 lakh is the minimum requirement for the operation in a private hospital or clinic.
According to the wife of a man named Priyobarta hailing from Bashikhong who performed neurosurgery at Shija Hospital, her husband was admitted at JN Hospital as he needed neurosurgery but due to non-availability of the neurosurgeon, the operation was performed at Shija Hospital finally.
As per disclosure made by the deputy director of state medical department, Dr.Ibocha, there are no persons who study post graduate in neurosurgery.
Those who wanted to study outside the state also could not qualified in the entrance test for doing PG in the field.
Some people who would be qualified also do not take interest in the field, he added.
He also said that even specialists from outside the state are convince with double the pay normally a surgeon getting, they are not willing to serve in Manipur, Ibocha said with appeal not give any disturbances in the medical sector to all concerns.
