Imphal, February 17, 2013:
Cyclone, Thangmeiband's decision to field first backfired as Champ, Khagempali posted a challenging 178 runs enroute to claiming the title of the 10th Manipur Veteran Cricket Championship with a 31 runs victory at Luwangpokpa Cricket stadium today.
Helped by eventual man of the match Birojit's 49-ball 62 (not out) and vital contributions from England 43 (36) and Ibobi 33 (45), champ scored 179 for three in the 30 over game.
Even though Surjit blasted 48 runs from only 28 balls, champ bowlers led by Tomthang (4 wkts) proved too hot to handle as the Cyclone run chase ended at 147 in 28.5 overs.
Tejbanta also claimed two Cyclone scalps while Ibobi and Ratan chipped in with one wicket each.
Mujibur Rahman of REYS, Nagamapal was declared the man of the tournament.
