With only one match each remaining in the 11 team double-leg 1st Manipur State League football tournament, TRAU, Tiddim road is within striking distance of clinching the title after a 2-0 victory against leaders AMOFA, Moirang at THAU ground today.
With the win TRAU tied AMOFA on points but has better goal difference that could prove vital in deciding the league winner.
With the venue serving as its home turf, TRAU began on a confident note with G Ninja Kabui slamming in the opener as early as the fourth minutes of play.
After a stoppage for nearly half an hour, the Tiddim road side sealed victory when L Khongsai found the back of the AMOFA net in the 44th minute.
Referee stopped play as section of the home team supporters launched a scathing verbal abuse including derogatory remarks against the Moirang side constraining the match officials to call in security personnel to ensure no untoward incident occur.
AMOFA had won the first leg tie between the two sides at 5-1.AMOFA's final match in the competition would be against third placed SSU, Singjamei (44 points).
SSU edged past YWC, Thambalkhong 2-1 at the latter's home ground with Banny Chiru netting both the visitors' goals in the 7th and 54th minutes and Th Sarat bridging the loss margin with an 89th minute strike.
In other matches of the day, PYC, Phoudel hung onto a 2-2 draw with visitors RACC, ESU routed SAI RC 6-0 in a home match and NEROCA blanked KFC, Kakching 2-0 at Luwangshangbam ground.
at Phoudel, Rengkai scored through Lalremthang (20th) and Lalremsang (64th) while T Basanta (42nd) and Md Riyaz Khan (70th) found the Rengkai net.
PYC had defeated RACC 5-2 in the first leg clash between the two.
In the Wangkhei match, the ESU goals were scored by Th Pravinkumar (14th), M Somochandra (38th, 59th), N Pritam (72nd) and P Saratchandra (82nd, 86th) to complete a 7-1 aggregate win.
Goals in either half from Manglemjao (15th) and Ajit (80th) ensured NEROCA's comfortable win over KFC.
NEROCA had won the first leg tie by a solitary goal.
