Imphal, March 28:
A hosteller of Manipur University had a miraculous escape when a portion of the overhead roof fell apart in the wee hours of today.
According to a release issued by Manipur University Men's Hostel no 2, the incident occurred at Room No 2 of the newly constructed hostel block whose first floor is yet to be completed.
Taking serious note of the incident the hostellers expressed doubt whether quality control norm was adequately followed in the construction work.
The release also prevailed upon the University authorities not to compromise interest and safety of the student community for the sake of financial gain by a handful.
Expressing strong resentment over the incident, MUSU speculated that absence of quality control measures by the Engineering Cell of the University's Development Section had caused the newly constructed building to fall apart.
The fact that such sub-standard work had been overlooked by the University authorities is a cause of serious concern as the only institute of higher education in the State was upgraded to a Central University some years back, said a MUSU release and called upon the varsity authorities to take all possible measures to ensure such lapses do not recur.
