The Lions Club International District-322D has awarded Karmayogi award for the year 2007 to Laishram Ananda Yaima Singh of Heirok Part-II, Thoubal district in recognition of his selfless sacrifice and social services for the welfare of the humanity for the last 40 years.
The award is being constituted by the District Fund Foundation, which is charitable Trust of Lions Club International is given to a renown social worker (non-Lion member) every year.
Considering his dedicated services, Ananda was nominated for the award by the Lions Club of Imphal East.
The contribution made by Ananda is innumerable.
He took initiative to repair Heirok Part-I Junior High School in 1968, constructed bridge in the Ningolbi Farming land of Heirok Part-III, helps in beautifying Yotningthou Umanglai of Heirok Part-I and II, Khongjom War memorial Complex, water supply and primary health centre by planting trees and flowers.
He also construct-ed and repaired in his own expenses one Heirok Sajikhong Wooden bridge, Heirok Bridge, Heirok Wangpokpi bridge, local club buildings, etc..
Ananda also took major initiative in cleaning and digging community ponds, offered tin roof sheets to repair and construct the Chingtam Bazar at Heirok Part-II, besides donating 2.50 acres of his farm land to the Rural Development Association for setting up a Tasar farm and two market sheds at Salungpham Kangthokcha.
The award consisting of Rs 41,000 (draft), citation and shawl was presented to him by Governor Dr SS Sidhu during the 28th annual district conference (322D) on March 17 at JN Manipur Dance Academy.
