Against the reported detention and harassment of civilians by security forces on false charges, a sit-in-protest was staged today at Ngairangbam Mayai Leikai.
The sit-in-protest was fuelled by the arrest of one Kakyenpaibam Ojit (30) of Ngairangbam Mayai Leikai by troops of 9 Sector AR on the intervening night of March 21 and 22 after which he was falsely accused as a KCP activist and allegedly tortured.
The protest sitting was participated by numerous Meira Paibis and school students.
Speaking to reporters during the protest sitting, the victimised Ojit recounted that he was blindfolded and his hands tied on the night he was arrested by AR troops.
As such, he had no idea where was taken to.
After that he was asked several unrelated questions and thrashed all the while.
Urging him to tell them the addresses of a colleague and the mohori of the work place where he worked as a brick layer, the AR personnel tortured him to the extreme, Ojit recounted his ordeal.
The names of the colleague and the mohori were retrieved from the cell phone the AR personnel seized from him, he mentioned.
On March 22, before he was handed over to Patsoi police station, he was photographed with a placard embossed with the letters KCP.
The AR personnel forced him to hold the placard, recalled Ojit adding that they also took his cell phone number.
Moreover, Ojit was threatened with re-arrest and death in case he divulge that the AR troops took his cell phone number.
Ojit was released on bail on March 26.
