The 12th edition of the Men's World Cup Hockey to be held here in March next year will be sponsored by Hero Honda.
The prestigious, once-in-four-year extravaganza will be officially named "HERO HONDA FIH WORLD CUP 2010" .
This was announced here at a simple but impressive ceremony by International Hockey Federation (FIH), Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Hockey India.
The ceremony also saw the coveted Hockey World Cup Trophy being put on display.
India will be hosting this cup for the second time after a gap of 28 years.
Previously, it was held in Mumbai (then Bombay) in 1982.Also present on the occasion were several members of the Indian Team, including skipper Ajit Pal Singh, which won the World Cup in 1975.It was India's one and only title win at the tournament.
India, who won the bronze in 1971 and silver in 1973, have not finished among medals since 1975 .
Other players of the 1975 squad present included HJS Chimini, B P Govinda, Ashok Dewan, Harcharan Singh and Virender Singh.
