Imphal, July 27 2009:
While ruling out any form of negotiation with the Government, the Senapati District Students' Association has conveyed that it would suspend its ongoing economic blockade along NH-39 once the Govt starts repairing work of NH-39 from Senapati to Maram with due emphasis on quality.
Speaking to reporters at its office at Senapati today, SDSA spokesman Veishole Pou decried that the MoU it signed with Works Minister K Ranjit in November 2008 has been reduced to nought.
In case the Govt takes up repairing working of the 22 km long stretch, maintaining due quality, SDSA would call off the ongoing economic blockade without waiting for any word from the Govt. SDSA functionaries took the media persons to different spots of the highway stretch where the road has deteriorated to pathetic conditions.
NPO general secretary Simon Chawang said that the NPO supported the SDSA blockade in the larger interest of the people of Manipur.
On the other hand, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union, while appreciating ATSUM, for relaxing its highway blockade today, asked all transporters affiliated to it not to resume service until the student body comes to an agreement with the Government.
Following the blockade relaxation today, more than 400 loaded trucks including oil tankers, LPG carriers and bullet tankers have arrived at Imphal.
