Imphal, July 27 2009:
Following the death of a student in the boarding of Slopeland Public School, the JAC constituted against the death of Chittaranjan has urged upon the authority concerned to close down the school so as to avert similar unfortunate incidents in future.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, JAC convenor L Kulladhaja narrated the events leading to the death of
Gurumayum Chittaranjan (25) of Tekcham.
Chittaranjan fell ill on July 22 .
Although the stu dent informed about his illness to the hostel warden in time, the school authority paid no attention due to which Chittaranjan died in the midnight of July 23 .
Observing that the school has a fleet of jeeps, vans and buses for transportation, the convenor decried that the school authority never bothered to keep a single ambulance for use in times of emergency.
For the school boarding having more than 600 students, there is not a single teacher.
Kulladhaja further blamed the school authority of trying to take a seriously ill student on a two wheeler.
Chittaranjan's family was informed about his condition only in the 11th hour.
The information given to the family was also misleading and took the family members to RIMS while Chittaranjan was ad mitted in Thoubal District Hospital.
Coming back from RIMS, the family members found Chittaranjan life-less in a room at Thoubal District Hospital with no one attending to him.
Quoting a patient who shared room with Chittaranjan, the JAC convenor said that one nurse fed paracetamol tablet and an unknown drug.
The nurse also reportedly chided Chittaranjan saying that he was only pretending.
The case of Chittaranjan is not the first, earlier an other student from Heirok had met the same fate, Kulladhaja said.
Such unfortunate cases are results of giving approval by the Government to schools establish with out checking the requisite criteria and infrastructure, decried the JAC convenor.
Asserting that Slopeland Public School has become a blot to many private schools, the JAC as serted that the Government investigate into the case and punish all those found guilty.
Moreover, the concerned authority should look into other private schools which lack management expertise and requisite infrastructure.
In connection with the death of Chittaranjan, police have already pulled up four persons including the Vice-Principal of the school.
