Imphal, January 08:
Holding sway over opponent Young Physique Union (YPhU), Lalambung for substantial duration of the match Manipur Police sports Club (MPSC) recorded a comfortable 3-0 win in the 47th CC Meet football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
The five time champion, MPSC scored twice in the first half and added the third barely ten minutes from end of normal period to added three point to the one previously collected at stands at par with Assam state Electricity Board on four followed by YPhU and Eastern Sporting union at three each in group Z.Dominating today's match from the very beginning the police forwards repeatedly pierced through the opponent zone but failed to take shots due to cramming by the YPhU side who missed the service of defender Khelemba owing to two consecutive yellow cards in the tournament.
The dominance of the police could be gauged from the fact six attempts were made for the goals by MPSC while the opponent could not even take a clear shot at the police citadel throughout the match.
For the former champions, Th Chandramohan headed in the opener in the 21st minute following a cross by I Nilakumar from the right flank.
Two minutes after the scorer was yellow carded for infringement the same player unleashed a ferocious drive from the top of the opponent box with Th Rohen providing the finishing touches after the ball had deflected off a YPhU defender.
Contrary to the Lalambung side hardly able to dent the police fort, substitute Kamal Rai tripled the lead off a Nilakumar essay from the right flank in the 79th minute.
MPSC and ESU will play the last quarter final league match on January 10 to decide the group champion.
