Intent on realizing the goal of making the India attain the status of a polio free country by 2005, the State Family Welfare Department is leaving no stone unturned to make the two day Pulse Polio Immunization drive a success.
The PII programme which is to be held under the slogan "2 drops of life" will be held on January 11 and February 22.Talking to The Sangai Express Family Welfare Department Director, Dr Rabei said that Manipur has a total of about 34,5532 children between the 0-5 years age group.
All that is needs to save these infants from Polio is to administer them two drops of Polio vaccine each, he said.
Dr Rabei said that his Department along with the State Health Directorate, ICDS and Social Welfare Dept, particularly Anganwadi workers are leaving no stone unturned to cover all the infants under the PII programme.
A total of 3361 booths will be opened in the State, he informed adding that it is the aim of the Govt to cover all the infants under this programme in both the hill and valley areas.
On top of the booths, 106 teams have been constituted to conduct house to house campaign in the State, he informed.
During the mass immunization drive, 683 supervisors and 13,656 vaccinators will be pressed into service, said Dr Rabei.
A survey conducted by the Department has revealed that the number of infants to be covered by the drive in Imphal West is 62,384 while in Imphal East the number of 56,054.At Thoubal the figure is 60,185, Bishnupur (31,095), CCpur (32,265), Chandel (17,822), Ukhrul (21,571) Senapati (47,813 and Tamenglong (16,343).
