Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) emerged as the champions of the inaugural Manipur Hockey League 2007 with an undefeated record in the eight team competition organised by Manipur Hockey Association.
On the final day of the league tournament today at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, MPSC crushed Wangkhei outfit COSMO 6-1.The goal spree began eight minutes into the game when S Tarun converted a penalty corner while M Mirple (10th) and P Priyokumar extended the lead to 3-0 within a span of one minute.
Even though Cosmo's Hemjit managed to pull back one in the 26th minute, P Adeva restored the goal advantage in the 39th minute before scoring his second of the match in the 65th.
Th Birjit slammed in the sixth police goal in the 68th to ensure MPSC clinch the league championship title with a total of 19 points four points more than second placed Cosmo.
MPSC got two penalty corners compared to four by the opponent side.
SAI (13 points) secured the third position followed by HU (11), PHAM (11), SEYO (7), Meiraa (4) and KhSC (0) in the descending order.
Man of the league title went to Th Birjit (MPSC) with the 'best promising player' award going to L Lee John of HU.
The champions were awarded Rs 5000 besides the trophy with the runners-up booty of Rs 3000 and trophy bagged by Cosmo.
SAI got Rs 2000.The final match and prize distribution ceremony was held with MLA Dr Ng Bijoy Singh and Dr Ch Manglem of RIMS as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
