A five day workshop on traditional painting of Manipur concluded at the Manipur State Museum, Imphal today.
The valedictory function was graced by Padmashree RK Jhalajit, Lalit Kala Academy awardee Prof Th Tombi and Art and Culture Director Dr Kh Sarojini as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
During the workshop organised by Directorate of Art and Culture under the aegis of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, paintings of 23 artists, including three female artists were exhibited.
The oeuvre of the art works illustrated the Leishemlon (creation of the Universe according to the mythology of Manipuris).
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Tombi stressed on the need for scientific documentation of Manipuri manuscripts.
He also suggested introduction of art appreciation courses in the educational syllabi both for traditional art and contemporary art.
