Under the joint aegis of the Directorate of Art and Culture and Tungi Yaiphanaba Semba Kanglup, Samurou, the 115th birth anniversary of Mahakavi Hijam Anganghal was observed today at Rupmahal Theatre.
The anniversary observance was graced by Education Minister L Jayantakumar, MLA Salam Joy and Deputy Director of the Art and Culture Department W Mera as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, W Mera informed that the Ministry of Culture has instituted pension scheme for those people working in the fields of art and culture.
States artistes may obtain application forms from the Art and Culture Department and submit the same along with bio-data for further recommendation to the Ministry.
Under the scheme, the selected artistes are given Rs 1500 by the Ministry in addition to Rs 500 by the Department.
As a part of the observance, Dr Rajen Toijamba presented a paper on the dramas of Hijam Anganghal.
Prof Nahakpam Aruna spoke on Anganghal's novel Zahera.
The seminar session was moderated by Prof E Dinamani.
