The 30th Annual Sports cum Cultural Meet, 2010 of the Aimol Students' Union, Manipur (ASUM) was kick-started today at Aimol Khullen in Chandel district with the theme Unity and Patience.
The inaugural function of the sports cum cultural meet was graced by Deputy Commissioner of Chandel, H Deelip, IAS, as the chief guest.
President of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), Thomas Taishya and social worker Janglet Haokip were the president and guest of honour respectively.
Twelve teams including one team from Assam have registered participation in the meet.
Speaking on the occasion, H Deelip noted that Manipur is a power house of sportsmen.
All communities in the state have their own distinct cultural identity.
Sportsmen from the state have earned name and fame in the national and international sporting arena.
He said, he will give more importance for the renovation and construction of playground in order to encourage sports in Chandel district during his tenure as the district DC.
The twelve teams which are set to compete in the meet are Assam Aimol Team, Assam; United Ngairong Youth Sports Association, Ngairong; Aimol Satu Youth Sports Club Organisation, Aimol Satu; Aimol Khullen; Unapal; Aimol Yunyai; Khudamphai; Chingnunghut; Aimol Tampak, Senapti district; Lakpa Kharam Thadou; and Laichingbu, Churachandpur.
