Police today claimed to have foiled the effort of PLA/RPF to recover arms and ammunitions from the custody of their harbourer cum money collector, one Khuraijam Basan alias Kakabasan of Mayanlangjing Tamang by seizing the said weapons and ammunitions.
Mention may be made that the proscribed RPF/PLA has claimed that weapons and ammunitions deposited by two deserters Khoirom Santikumar (26) and Meishnam Kaoba (29) belonging to 253 mobile battalion have been recovered by the outfit from the house of Basan.
Contrary to the claim made by the outfit, police today said that a combined force of Imphal west police and troops of 26 Assam Rifles in joint operation recovered the weapons and ammunition which included one AK-56 assault rifle with magazines and 30 live rounds, one M-16 assault rifles with two magazines and 100 rounds and two mobile phones in the follow up action to the disclosure made by the two deserters along with another cadre of the same outfit.
Despite the best efforts of the PLA/RPF using diversionary tactics for the recovery of their arms and ammunitions from the custody of their harbourer cum money collector , Khuraijam Basan Singh of Mayanglangjing and to mislead the security forces, using their usual convenient medium of misleading and leaking wrong information to the security forces.
RPF/PLA also attempted to discredit the security forces through local media today, alleging harassment of innocent public, additional SP, Imphal west AK Jhaljit said.
He said, "relying on our own information and sources, the combine team arrested a PLA cadre identified as self styled private Thamongjam Samsan (40) son of Jugindro of Mayang Langjing from near Lai-Lampak at about 7 pm yesterday.
Following his disclosure, self styled lance corporal Huidrom Bhogen alias Chingkhei (28) and Khuraijam Basanta of Mayanglangjing, a harbourer cum money collector of PLA who was absconding since morning, was apprehended from a place at Loitang Khunou yesterday at about 10.30 pm.
Again, in the follow up action the arms and ammunitions which were kept concealed were recovered at about 11.30 pm of January 12 from a place near the residence of Kakabasan at Mayanglangjing Tamang.
"There was no harassment of innocent public by the security forces during the operation as alleged by PLA in the local newspaper today," the Additional SP clarified.
