Imphal, January 19, 2011:
Decrying the extortion demand of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group from Don Bosco High School, Phayeng, the Parents' Committee of the school staged a Wakat Meepham at Phayeng today.
Apart from parents, the staff and students of the school also participated in the protest demonstration.
While the protest demonstration was underway, the armed outfit reportedly threatened the school authority to shut down the school if the demand is not going to be met.
The armed outfit has reportedly demanded Rs 3 lakhs from the school.
The demand note was served to the school on December 21, 2010. In connection with the demand, the Parents' Committee has asserted that majority of the students studying in Don Bosco High School, Phayeng are from poor family who can not even afford to clear the school fee in time.
So, such monetary demand is something that the school would be able to meet.
On the other hand, the issue centering around the monetary demand that has come at a time when the annual examination of the students is fast approaching has created apprehension over the possibility of losing the academic career of the students, the Parents' Committee observed.
