Senapati hails, flays

While expressing gratitude to officers and jawans of the Army and Assam Rifles based at Senapati district headquarters for their support and assistance in preventing more devastation when a fire broke out on January 17 midnight, the Naga people's Organisation (NPO) and Senapati District women Association (SDWA) have condemned the State Government for inadequate fire fighting equipment.
In a joint release, the bodies decried that inspite of repeated proposals to the state authorities for provision of more fire engines with larger capacities there is no positive response till date resulting in the district populace having to frequently face threatening situation as availability of only one mini-fire engine is incapable for containing major infernos.
While stating that damages caused by the January 17 inferno would have been minimal in case more fire engines were based in the district headquarters, a joint release of NPO and SDWA, however lauded initiative of Brig AK Narula of the 59 Mountain Brigade and authorities of 5 AR for leading the public in preventing the fire from spreading and causing major devastation.
More than five shops were gutted and properties worth lakhs of rupees consumed by the inferno.
