Governor, others condole MK

Governor Gurbachan Jagat has condoled the death of eminent writer and cultural activist Maharaj Kumari Binodini Devi.
In a condolence message addressed to Dr Bobby Roy, son of Binodini, the Governor said, 'I am deeply pained to hear of the passing away of your mother.....
Although she had been ailing for some time, yet her presence in our midst was a source of great strength and inspiration and one hoped and prayed that somehow a miracle would occur and she would continue to be with us.
However, that was not to be and the inevitable happened''.
Describing MK Binodini as the corner stone of the edifice of the Manipuri cultural structure of the last many decades, the Governor recalled that she began her unique journey by becoming the first female graduate of Manipur and then by contributing to Manipuri literature under the influence of the one and only Rabindranath Tagore.
''She was the fountain head of inspiration for the younger generations of writers and artistes in other fields and I am sure that she will continue to be a beacon of light and hope for the future generations'', the Governor said.
Her passing away has created a void in the cultural and social scene of the State and the country which will be difficult to fill, the Governor observed while extending his his deep condolences to the bereaved family members and the people of Manipur and sharing in their loss and sorrow.
Cutting across political and religious boundary, various social organisations and individuals have also expressed their condolences over the demise of Binodini.
These include Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur State Kala Akademi, Manipur Film Development Corporation Limited, Manipur State Commission for Women, All Manipur Film Producers' Association, Cine Artistes & Technicians Association (Manipur), Rup Mahal Theatre, The Cultural Forum Manipur, Writers' Forum (Imphal), Ethno Heritage Council, All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers' Union, Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Manipur Chemists & Druggists Association, Buddhists' Council (Manipur), Tarahei Muslim Women Welfare Association, Heingang Kendra Loumee Lup, CPI Manipur State Council, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad (Assam) and president of MPP Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
