NSCN-IM cadre handed over to CBI

A Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) team led by a DSP today took into custody a NSCN(IM) activist who was arrested by the AR from Ukhrul in Nov, 2010 along with two other activists.
A highly placed official source said that the CBI team from Kolkata led by DSP Ajit Das came to Imphal yesterday and flew back today with the NSCN (IM) cadre Kapling Laikhun (24) son of David Laikhun of Kongkhan village, Ukhrul district.
Three personnel of the state police accompanied the CBI team on flight IC-211 to Kolkata at 3.30 pm, the source said.
Kapling was arrested by troops of 17 AR along with Ephem AS (30) son of Mayami AS of Marao village and Ramreiyo Kapai (29) son of Reichumhao of Hundung village on November 30, 2010 at about 4.30 am from Litan in Ukhrul district.
A 9 mm pistol containing six live rounds, 90 detonators, 2.2 kg of explosive materials and five fuses were also seized from the possession of the three activists.
Since then, they had been lodged in a jail in Imphal.
They were later handed over to Porompat Police Station where a case under FIR no.290 (11) 2010 under section 400 of IPC, 25 (1-C) Act and 5 Explosive Substances Act) and was further transferred to Ukhrul PS as the place of arrest lay within the jurisdiction of the Ukhrul PS.
According to a source, Kapling Laikhun is allegedly involved with the murder of a MP of Arunachal Pradesh in December, 2007 in the Tirap district.
