Hawkers threaten cease work

Reminding its July 31 deadline announced earlier, All Manipur Newspaper Sales and Distributers Association has threatened to stop distributing newspapers if the Home Department fails to punish those security personnel involved in assaulting and robbing of a newspaper distributor on Thursday night at Kiyamgei Pal Ahanbi.
According to a press statement released by the General Secretary of the Association, the agitation to be carried out by the Association on August 1 is its first step and it would be followed by various other intense agitations.
It may be noted that Ningthoujam Bira, a newspaper distributor from Heirok but presently staying at Keishamthong was assaulted by some suspected Police Commandos.
He was also robbed of his mobile phone, Honda Activa and a sum of Rs 16,00 before being abandoned at Lilong Arapti area on Thursday night.
He was returning home after selling newspaper at Thoubal and Wangjing.
