Hawkers threaten to suspend service

Taking strong exception to the failure of the Home Department to find out the suspected police commandos who assaulted and robbed newspaper hawker Ningthoujam Ranabir (34) s/oN Mani of Heirok Part II Bazar Maning but stay ing at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai in the night of July 26, the All Manipur Newspaper Sales and Distributors Association has threatened to suspend distribution of newspapers on August 1 in case the culprits are not booked by July 30. According to a press release issued by the association, the suspected commandos not only assaulted Ranabir but also robbed him of his wrist watch, mobile phone, Rs 16550 in cash and also one Honda Activa.
The association has already lodged a complaint with the Home Department on the incident.
It also appealed to all newspaper publishers and readers to bear the inconeveniences caused by non-distribution of newspapers on August 1.
