Imphal, November 19:
While welcoming Prime Minister to visit the State, the Mao Council has expressed its displeasure over the manner in which his visit to the Mao areas to inaugurate the Fruit Processing Plant has been cancelled by the State Government.
In a statement the union said that while all preparations were being taken up on a war footing with the involvement of the entire community so as to present a befitting welcome to the Prime Minister, the State Govt abruptly cancelled the visit citing various reasons at different times such as security concern, incompletion of construction of helipad, the PMs tight schedule, etc.
making it very clear that they had no intention to let the PM visit the tribal areas and to bear witness to a project which had grown without the support of the State Government.
Expressing its unhappiness, the Council will not welcome or felicitate the ASEAN car rally that will pass through Mao areas and will not be responsible for any untoward incidents that may take place during the occasion.
The Plant has 1000 passion fruit growers as share holders and will benefit many more farmers of the hill areas of the State as it commences its operation.
