Imphal, November 19:
Even after a long patient waiting for the Ibobi led State Govt to immediately redress the grievances of hill people of Manipur by November 18, the Govt still seems to turn a deaf ear to the genuine demands of hill tribal people of Manipur.
It may be noted that the three student organisation ANSAM, KSO and ATSUM had demanded the State Govt to implement the MoU signed between the Govt and these three organisation for issue of D.P.concurrence for the smooth and independent functioning of Additional Director Education (s) Hills.
They also urged the Govt for immediate release of Rs 75 lakhs centre assistance meant for construction of computer room in each of the 5 (five) hill districts of Manipur.
The three students bodies were shocked to know that the State Govt has failed to utilise allocated funds for computer room construction in hill districts of Manipur for the financial year 1997-98 whereas funds released for the same purpose in valley district had already been utilised by the year 2000.Informing NNN today the tribal student organisation said that this has indicated the Sate Governments failure to take up welfare measures particularly meant for hill people of Manipur.
The three hill student bodies also expressed their displeasure at people in authorities (power) for not taking speedy investigation regarding the fraudulent withdrawal of money meant for construction/repairing/maintenance of roads in Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts and missing of bitumen meant for black-topping of the Old Cachar road.
The representatives (leaders of the three) of the three students organisation said to NNN that hill people of Manipur were constantly and cruelly deprived of benefits of Central allocation due to the lukewarm attitude towards hill tribal welfare by the State Administration.
