Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today again appealed to the people to join hands in welcoming Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow and be present when the holy Kangla is handed over to the people.
Addressing the Quami Ekta (National Integrity Week) function held at State Secretariat South Block this afternoon, Ibobi said all the people should accord fitting welcome to the visiting dignitary.
Describing it as historic moment when Kangla would be handed over to people, Ibobi fervently appealed to the people to be present at the occasion.
Speaking on the relevance of observing Quami Ekta, Chief Minister said that it would inculcate the spirit of oneness and integrity among the people.
The Quami Ekta is being observed every year for one complete week from November 19 to 25 in commemoration of late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who sacrificed her life for the unity and integrity of the Nation.
Chief Minister said the ideals of Indira Gandhi are even more relevant today in our society.
As long as there is love and unity among different groups of people living in the State, the fear for disintegration of our State boundary is unfounded, he observed.
IFC Minister Phungzathang Tonsing who presided over the function also stressed on the need for unity and love among the people.
Integrity would come automatically when people live in peace and mutual harmony.
Towards the end of the function, Ministers, MLAs and officials who were present at the occasion took the pledge for working unity and integrity of the State and its people.
MIF welcomes: Manipur Intellectual Forum (MIF) has welcomed the gesture of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh would be handing over Kangla to the people of Manipur during his visit to the State on November 20.
