Publicity secretary, T Simte of KRA today clarified that the two persons picked by the Assam Rifles from a place under Senapati police station some days back were released as they were not culprits.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Simte said that one of the two persons was a cadre of the outfit while the other one was a civilian.
The KRA cadre was on leave on medical ground after he complaint of unwell health.
The outfit did not issued weapon to him.
He had proceeded Imphal for medical treatment to his illness in a private vehicle.
The cadre was released as KRA is among the outfits maintaining Suspension of Operation with the security forces.
But alleged charge of Senapati police that they were KRA cadres involved in the extortion activities on the highway and rounded up them after a brief gun clash was a baseless one and a totally wrong statement of the police, Simte said.
KRA do not engaged in looting and extorting on the NH-39 but some other Kuki based outfits did it in the name of the outfit with the objective of tarnishing image of the outfit, he added.
