Imphal, March 15, 2010:
Reiterating that government should pay the revised sixth pay bands to its employees effective from January 2006, teachers of government schools have threatened to join the cease-work strike of the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO today.
The Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) is getting ready to the cease-work strike, said members of the COTA, the apex body of All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association (AMESTA), All Manipur Secondary School Teachers' Association (AMSSTA), All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association (AMGHSLWA) and All Manipur Government Graduate Teachers' Association.
The decision to join the cease-work strike was taken in a joint meeting of the apex body yesterday at Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, said M Debendro, spokesperson of the COTA speaking at a press conference at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
Before joining the strike, a memorandum pressing the government to pay the revised pay bands recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission effective from January 2006, will be submitted to Chief Minister, O Ibobi on March 18, he said.
Earlier also such memorandum had been submitted, he said lamenting that no reply could be get from the government till date.
He also blamed the government for not efforting to bring striking JAC to the negotiating table through talks.
Instead of it, government is sending out fillers to negotiate with the strikers like the JAC is an underground outfit.
It's a surprise one, he added.
Bodies of the teachers are extending support to the JAC strike but they are not joining the cease-work strike considering the ongoing HSLC and HSSLC exams.
