Imphal, March 15, 2010:
In support of the cease work strike being launched under the aegis of Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of AMTUC and AMGEO in pursuance of the demand for implementing the revised 6th Central Pay recommendations in Manipur in toto, the Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) has announced its decision of taking recourse to intense agitations.
COTA is the joint body of All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association (AMESTA), All Manipur Secondary School Teachers' Association (AMSSTA) and All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association (AMHSLWA).
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here today, the two co-convenors of COTA namely N Devan Mangang and M Joykumar lamented over the failure of the Government to respond to the memorandum submitted by Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) for implementation of 6th Central Pay in toto and said this attitude shows that the Government is indifferent to the development of human resources in the State.
This is really unfortunate because the Government of India has been trying to develop human resources not only through improvement of the infrastructures but also through increasing the pay scale of the teachers as well as giving various other incentives, the con-convenors said.
ON the contrary, the Government of Manipur has been trying to suppress the teachers.
In a way to abolish the educational institutions, an order had been passed on December 28, 2006 to reinstate the pay scale of the higher secondary teachers at Rs 1000.Moreover, the 6th Central Pay is to be implemented in the State after four years of its implementation in other parts of the country.
Vice president of All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association M Devendra, who was also present during the press conference informed that a booklet titled 'Adoption of 6th Central Revised Pay' that the Association has published would be submitted to the Chief Minister who is also incharge of Finance and exert pressures for implementation of the guidelines given by the Commission as well as other points highlighted in the said booklet.
After submission of the booklet, various intense agitations would be launched to ensure the recommendations of the 6th Central Pay is implemented in toto in Manipur, he added.
