As a part of their annual activities of extending aid to destitute and aged people, the Wangjing Women and Girls' Society (WWGS) has distributed many aid materials to aged people staying in two shelters located in Bishnupur district.
At simple functions held today at Bishnupur Thana Maning Multi Service Centre and Naransena Bazar Multipurpose Service Centre, WWGS general secretary L Premananda and DSO L Ibomcha distributed blankets and edible items to aged and destitute people staying at the two shelters.
Many local leaders also attended the functions.
The WWGS opened a day care centre at Wangjing in Thoubal district in 1994.Around 60 aged people, particularly women above 60 years who are either neglected by their children or who have no one to look after them are given shelter at the centre.
In 1998, similar centres were opened at Khangabok, Sekmaijin, Thongjao, Langmeidong, Khongjom and Yairipok where aged women are being housed.
In line with the objective of expanding its area of activity, the WWGS shifted four day care centres from Thoubal district to Bishnupur district and these centres now upgraded to multi service centres are located at Nambol Thiyam, Ngaikhong Siphai, Bishnupur Thana Maning Leikai and Naransena Bazar.
Vocation trainings are also provided at these centres from time to time.
