'Avoid misusing oil and gas'

Indian Oil Company (IOC), Imphal Division organised an Oil and Gas fortnight campaign today.
The programme which kicked off with a function at Classic Hotel, Imphal will continue till January 31. Chief guest, Commissioner (Consumer Affair, Food and Public Distribution) H Imocha said 80 percent of petroleum products required in the country is imported and stressed on the need for proper use of the products.
He added, a traffic rule lessening oil consumption and controlled use of cooking gas are measures which needs to be taken up.
The Petroleum Conservation Research Association in collaboration with IOC started a campaign for conservation these products in 1982.This was observed as Oil and Gas Conservation Week but later in 1987 it was converted to Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight.
K Ibotombi, state coordinator of the fortnight campaign said, the main objective of the fortnight observance is to spread an awareness to the people on the importance of conservation of the resource.
A Yaiskul, additional secretary (Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution) speaking as guest of honour, observed that proper use of these products for conservation should begin from individuals and their families avoiding unnecessary use of these resources.
The function which was held under the theme �Save Oil, Save Life�, CAF &PD joint director S Kullachandra attended the function as guest of honour.
A painting competition for children was held on the first day of the fortnight observance.
