Ukhrul, January 12 2010:
Due to alleged sloppy service of United Bank of India, Ukhrul branch, a commotion broke out within the bank premises today.
Irked with the utter incompetency of the UBI staff, agitated customers stormed the interior of the bank.
When this correspondent reached the UBI branch office, the bank was found over crowded by customers.
The customers said that they were waiting for urgent financial transactions since morning but the bank was not conducting any transaction.
When enquired about the slow pace of transaction, one officer said that internet connectivity to the bank fail very often thereby impeding transaction of cash.
As this correspondent tried to approach the Manager of the bank, it was informed that he was out of station.
One visibly irritated customer, AS Willingson said that he had been waiting for his turn since early morning but it never came as the bank staff were taking at least one hour to deal with just 2-3 customers.
The irritated customers were infuriated by the provocative words of some officers of the bank leading to a commotion.
Another customer, an octogenarian, said that he had been waiting for his turn since three days with a token carrying
number 93 .
Unable to wait any longer, he went back to his native village taking the token but without the money for which he went to the bank.
When he came back again to the bank at about noon today, he saw even greater number of customers.
The aged customer said that he has lost his faith in UBI banking system.
He wished for an SBI branch at the district headquarters.
Notably, many social organisations and student bodies of the district have been demanding setting up of an SBI branch as the lone UBI branch cannot serve the whole district.
