A society called the Manipur Tourism Society with the objective of boosting up tourism in the state has been formed.
The society was formed considering the non-developing of tourism in the state even though state tourism department is there, according to the founders of the society.
An executive committee of 11 members has also been constituted with Angom Arunkumar as president.
Laishram ongbi Seityabhama and Gopimayum Tombi are the vice presidents while Nandeibam Balgopal, Laishram Chandramani, Laimayum Basanta, Khundrakpam Suresh and Hanjabam Ibomcha are respectively, general secretary, secretary organisation, finance secretary and publicity secretary respectively.
Speaking at a press conference held the president of the society, Arunkumar observed that Manipur has enough potential for tourism.
The society has been founded with the objective of developing tourism as industry and improves the socio-economic condition of the state.
Expressing the necessity of building up a tourism movement in the state, he cited the need for a having a body to campaign for the same.
The newly form body will bring up the necessity of drafting a tourism policy of the state, he added.
The society was formed by meeting held on January 6 last.
Apart from its 11 executive members, officials of the state tourism department are advisors.
For the time being the society will be functioned at the house of its vice president Seityabhama at Wangkhei Akoijam Leikai.
A seminar will also be held at the earliest with regard to the development of tourism in the state, Arunkumar added.
