Imphal, January 12 2010:
Troops of 17 AR apprehended twelve underground suspects around 8.30 am today in Longshilok area of Ukhrul district.
According to a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S), the AR troops launched an operation after discovering transshipment of ganja and arms in Longshilok area.
The troops apprehended two UG suspects.
Interrogation on the two suspects led to the arrest of ten more suspects.
Thirteen country-made rifles, two single barrel rifles and 300 kgs of ganja have been recovered from the apprehended individuals.
The apprehended persons and the seized items were handed over to Ukhrul police station, it stated.
Meanwhile, in another incident, troops of 29 AR apprehended two suspects at a permanent vehicle check post at Tengnoupal around 11.15am today, the AR statement informed.
On interrogation, one individual was found to be an active cadre of UPPK based at Tanam Camp across and was moving to liaise with other cadres in Imphal valley.
The other apprehended person revealed that he was a deserter from CRPF for the last five years and was in possession of a CRPF identity card bearing machine no 272254 and was said to be an overground worker for various UG outfits.
The two were identified as No 9210207 s/s L/Cpl Saikhom Amarjit alias Jiten (24) son of S Amuyaima of Udaipur Mathak Leikai and Kshetrimayum Noren (35) son of (L) Ksh Chanorapapu of Kakching Khullen.
They were handed over to Imphal West police station, it added.
In an unrelated incident, a team of Imphal East commandos apprehended a 'lieutenant' of the RPF/PLA yesterday around 8.30am from JN Hospital area.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Maibam Ratan alias Moranba (42), son of M Deban of Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai.
He is said to have joined the outfit in 1993 and was trained in Bangladesh for 45 days.
He is assigned Army no 1113, according to a statement issued by the SP of Imphal East, Th Radheshyam.
