Imphal, December 03 2010:
In pursuit of their demand for implementation of the 6th Central Revised Pay in toto, the Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) has decided to launch a relay hunger strike from tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at Modhu Girls' High School, Keishampat today, COTA member and president of the All Manipur Hill Teachers' Association, JR Jaitungeng said that the COTA's cease work strike against the Government's failure to implement 6th Central Revised Pay in toto is fully supported by teachers of all schools located in the hill districts starting from elementary level to secondary level.
COTA did not join the cease work strike undertaken by the JAC earlier for eight months on the same issue in the interest of students.
But, even today, despite repeated assurances given by the Government, the demand to implement 6th Central Revised Pay in toto has not been fulfilled.
This has compelled the teachers to launch the cease work strike.
Even then, the Government is paying little attention to COTA's demand.
As such, member teachers of COTA would be launching a relay hunger strike from tomorrow and the same would continue until the demand is met.
This would be followed by mass court arrest movement.
Any eventuality arising out of these agitation should be borne by the Government, Jaitungeng added.
On the other hand, joining the agitation launched under the aegis of COTA, teachers of Lilong Higher Secondary School and Chaoyaima Hr Sec School, Thoubal staged a protest demonstration today.
Reacting to the teachers' agitation, students of these two schools protest demonstrations within their school complexes urging the authority to find an amicable solution so that students are not deprived of education.
At Moreh too, a team of the All Moreh Working Journalists Union who visited Moreh Govt Hr Sec School today found the teachers not taking any classes.
Speaking to the media team, one of the teachers said that they stopped taking classes from today in support to the ongoing cease work stir against non-implementation of 6th Central Pay in toto.
