Necessary facilities for cattle cross-breeding programme through artificial insemination would be installed at Jessami, Ukhrul soon.
This was assured by Veterinary Joint Director Dr Thokchom Debendra Kumar during an interaction session held yesterday at Jessami village as part of a one day public awareness programme on Livestock Health and Artificial Insemination for Improvement of Local Cattle.
The awareness programme organised by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services was attended by Retired Veterinary Director Dr S Joykumar, Chairman of Jessami Village Council W Kanmi and Secretary of Jessami Village Council Azope Lohe as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the awareness programme, Dr S Joykumar highlighted the importance of animal husbandry and livestock farming not only for increasing different livestock products like eggs, meat and milk but also for generating rural employment and economic upliftment of farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Thokchom Debendra Kumar explained in detail about the benefits of cattle cross-breeding in terms of milk production as well as meat production.
District Veterinary Officer, Ukhrul Ngahorsha Luithui spoke on how to control different livestock diseases with explicit description about different diseases common to livestock.
He also appealed to villagers for timely participation in vaccination programmes organised by erinary Department from time to time.
Veterinary Officer of Manipur Livestock Development Board Dr Oinam Lokendra spoke on the techniques of artificial insemination, deliberating on the basic knowledge cattle farmers should have for insemination of cows.
Earlier in the morning, a vaccination programme to be continued for the next three days was launched.
On the first day itself, 200 dogs were vaccinated against rabies.
Moreover, swine fever vaccine for 600 pigs, BQ/Hs Combined Vaccine for 475 cattle and fowl pox vaccine for 1000 birds were handed over to the in-charge of Jessami veterinary Dispensary, conveyed a press release.
