Property worth around ' four lakh was reduced to ashes when a sangoi rearing chicken at Wangkhem village of Thoubal district was burnt by a fire that broke out from an electric short-circuit last night.
The sangoi belongs to one Ningthoujam Heramot and the fire broke out last night around 11 pm apparently from an electric short-circuit.
According to Hermot, the owner of the sangoi, around 700 chickens out of which 200 of them weighing at least three kg on an average were killed in the fire.
Family members came to be aware of the fire after most of the Sangoi had been burnt.
They were not able to save the chickens.
Apart from killing most of the chickens, two looms, around 20 bags of paddy, two water reservoirs and a water pump set (tulu) were also damaged by the fire.
