Lamka, August 02 2011:
Two siblings, both minors were charred to death on Sunday as a fire believe to have originated from a burning candle scorched the tin-roofed-mud-walled residence of an Army man at L Semoul village here.
Sources said, local residents had to bore a hole on the mud wall in order to contain the fire as its only door was already caught by the inferno when they came to learn about the fire, dampening their efforts to save the life of the minors and the properties inside.
Parents of the victims along with their youngest sibling were reportedly attending a prayer meeting at the adjoining village of Tuibuong when their residence went up in flames at around 7.30 pm with three of the siblings inside.
Joseph Henminthang, the eldest of the three managed to escape but 8 yearsold Rosica Hatchingthiem alias Heshi, reading in class II at St Mary's and her 5 years old brother Hemsanglun, reading in class A at Salt Brook School were not as lucky.
The charred remains of the two children were laid to rest yesterday at the village cemetery.
