Giving a bigger scope and dimension to the Japanese funded Sericulture Project in the State, Sericulture Minister N Mangi today laid the foundation stones of four Adult Rearing House to rear Mulberry trees at different locations in Andro.
Later interacting with the Field Operating Units personnel, Mangi said that two Adult Rearing Houses will be built for each FOU in the first phase.
Construction of the Rearing Houses will start from today and it will take two months to complete each such House, said the Minister.
The Rearing Houses will then be inaugurated on February 3.The NBCC will be assigned the task of constructing the Rearing Houses, said Mangi and added that altogether there will be 4575 houses.
At each FOU centre, five Rearing Houses will come up.
As there is lack of re-fabricating material with NBCC only 575 of the 4575 Rearing Houses will be built in the first phase, said Mangi and added the Central Silk Board has already given the green signal for the work to proceed.
The remaining Rearing Houses will be built soon by NBCC, he explained.
Local MLA S Chandra who was also present at the occasion said that it is a blessing for the people of Andro that the Rearing Houses should come up at Andro.
He expressed his gratitude to the Sericulture Minister and other officials concerned for picking Andro for the project.
Director of Sericulture Department S Devabrata said that mulberry plantation will provide earning avenue to a number of people, particularly women.
He appealed to the people to take up the project sincerely and generate income.
According to another source, foundation stones are also likely to be laid at Bishnupur district for setting Rearing Houses.
Rearing Houses likely to come up at different districts are Imphal-402, Thoubal-97, Senapati-76, Tamenglong-10, Ukhrul-67, Chandel-36, Bishnupur-36 and Churachandpur-80.
