Imphal, December 04:
Expressing strong dissent over degradation of Kakching Rural Hospital to the status of a PHC, Thoubal District United Women Development Organisation (TDUWDO), Kakching Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup (KKANL) and United Peoples' Administrative Council have conducted a two day social service camp in the premises of the hospital with an objective to draw attention of the State Government.
Talking to reporters yesterday on the concluding day of the camp, TDUWDO president Kangjam Thasana observed that patients feel insecure to go for medical treatment in the hospital due to poor infrastructure and negligence.
With the Rural Hospital becoming almost non functional, people of Kakching, Khongjom, Sugnu, Pallel, Wabagai have been forced to go to Imphal for medical treatment, Thasana added.
She further remarked that going to Imphal even for minor ailments is a serious blow to the impoverished people besides causing inconveniences.
Talking of infrastructure and facilities, she stated that there is no toilet or generator to make up for power failure which happen frequently.
As such many surgical operations related to delivery have been compelled to perform under candle or lantern light.
Frequent trips to Imphal for medical treatment has become unaffordable and hazardous to patients with many patients dying on the way, said president of Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup, N Akasini.
President of UPACO, M Premjit lamented that numerous amenities liable to a rural hospital, only a gynaecology specialist and five nurses are manning the hospital.
The X-ray machine is out of order and there is no laboratory technician, added Premjit.
He further expressed the wish of the people to install an operation theatre in addition to provision of five medical officers.
