All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has announced its decision to campaign for extending the benefits of Employees Provident Fund, Employees Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme and Employees Pension Scheme to all the employees working in private and public sector undertakings in Manipur.
Addressing a press conference at Irabot Bhavan here today, AITUC Manipur unit president MLA Dr M Nara Singh said people are not aware of the fact that not just the Government employees but also those working under Corporate/private firms are entitled to get the benefits of Employees Provident Fund in accordance to the Employees Provident Fund Scheme which became an Act in 1952.AITUC would be launching the campaign with the main objective of spreading this awareness to all section of the people, he said.
Dr Nara claimed that with the persistent pressure exerted on the Government, State Labour Department has issued a notification for observing one day in a week as holiday for all the shops and business establishments in accordance to Manipur Shops and Establishment Act, 1972 which had never been implemented in the past.
Dr Nara informed that many resolutions for the betterment of the employees and workers have been taken during the 38th National congress of AITUC held at New Delhi from November 26 to 30, 2005.Moreover, he has been elected as the National vice president and AITUC Manipur unit general secretary L Sotinkumar as member of the National general Council during the said congress.
AITUC Manipur unit general secretary L Sotinkumar who was also present during the press conference, disclosed that AITUC in association with Mutiya Workers� Union and other Unions of Shops and Business establishments would begin a drive to see that the notification of the State Labour Department is being observed or not from next Sunday.
