Imphal, January 04:
State BJP unit president Th Chaoba today optimistically predicted that BJP candidates would record a landslide victory in the forthcoming Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council elections.
Talking to media persons at the BJP office today, Chaoba accused the SPF Government of corruption and contended that it is neck deep in corruption. The veteran politician also charged that the State Government is unable to produce utilisation certificates and recalled the recent news reports of bills being withdrawn without implementing the prescribed works in Tamenglong district.
It is clear and understandable that people of the State would not elect this corruption infested Government for the second time, he remarked.
Chaoba contended that the people are fed up with the Congress party which is amply substantiated by the party's inability to field a Congress candidate even in the Thoubal Municipality ward under the Assembly Constituency of the Chief Minister.
He informed that 30 BJP candidates would contest in 18 Nagar Panchayats scheduled on January 17 while another 40 candidates including 14 women would be in the fray in the Municipal Council elections.
Candidate of Nambol Municipality, Khundrakpam Somendra has won the seat for BJP uncontested, he said while adding that out of eight seats in the Municipal Council the party would be able to win three seats.
In today's press meet, noted economist, Prof Dr Mohendro and councillor of Nambol Municipal Council, Ng Amita were granted BJP membership by the party president.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mohendro stated he had been a member of a regional party for a long time.
However considering the necessity of finding a solution at the National level to the various problems and issues besetting the State and in his quest for a reliable National Party, he decided to join BJP, added the economist.
