Moreh, January 04:
Women folk of Moreh town staged a torch rally to expose and flay alleged anti-people conduct of 24 Assam Rifles authorities pertaining to the case of one Sarangthem Jayenta alias Arun of Hiyangthang.
Contrary to staunch denial yesterday by the Commander of the AR unit Col KS kadian that Jayenta is not in their (AR) custody the individual has been reportedly handed over to Imphal police headquarters this afternoon.
Jayenta was picked up by security personnel on January 1 night from Moreh.
Following report of handover of the youth, bandh imposed in the border town under a conglomerate of women bodies has been subsequently relaxed with effect from today evening.
Information about Jayentas handover was relayed by personnel of Moreh police station to representatives of some women bodies who were protesting in front of the police station.
Despite the youth being placed under police custody, the women folk expressed anger and questioned the sincerity of Assam Rifles authorities who had even brushed aside demand for information on whereabouts of Jayenta.
An emergency meeting was convened at the protest site condemning the ARs conduct which the women observed as mocking the sentiments and concern of Moreh public.
A protest torch rally was also staged in the evening starting from Moreh PS and covered various localities of the border town amid slogans against the AR as well as demanding Jayentas unconditional release.
