Taking note of the recent spurt in abduction cases an anti-kidnapping squad has been floated, uniform and plain-cloth cops deployed at strategic locations and security personnel for emergency purposes kept reserved round the clock, said Additional DGP (Law&Order) Y Joykumar.
In a exclusive chat with The Sangai Express today the police officer also urged the public to inform cases of abduction instantly through telephone nos '100' and '2220214'.Maintaining that delayed report of kidnapping episode hampers police rescue missions, Joykumar iterated that prompt information have high possibility of saving the lives of detained persons.
While delayed information can provide ample opportunity to the kidnappers to hide their victim or shift them to remote hideouts, instant reporting can facilitate security personnel to swing into rescue operations, he elaborated.
Mention may be made that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had recently declared that no negotiation will be entertained with the abductors and stressed that rescue operation would be launched at the earliest to secure the release of the hostage.
On security measures to curb the menace of kidnapping and other anti-social activities, the Addl DGP said frisking and checking at vulnerable locations would be enhanced in addition to deployment of uniformed and plain-clothed security men at strategic points.
To expedite rescue operations an anti-kidnapping squad has been kept on reserve at the police headquarters, he said adding that strict instructions have been issued to all district headquarters police stations to stay alert besides adequate provision of security manpower.
On the verification programme of Manipur police to check unlawful activities, he said survey of family lists have begun at the commercial centres of the capital city while appealing to the people to extend their cooperation.
Regarding deployment of Central security force to aid civil administration, the ADGP enumerated that four out of five CRPF battalions have arrived at the State and will share information and conduct counter insurgency operations with Manipur police.
