A Aza minister of Youth Affairs and sports participated in a meeting with in-charge secy NEC at Shillong on 29th may last where NEC agreed to take up the construction work of Mahadev-Tolloi portion of the road construction which is part of the proposed Mahadev via Tolloi both in Manipur to Pfutsero in Nagaland road to be funded by NEC.
In this connection, A Aza minister of YAS told media persons that the road construction work to be undertaken by BRTF involved totally new cutting for the portion of 1 to 28 km from Mahadev.
NEC has earmarked an amount of Rs 1 crore in its current year budget for the work and has already requested BRTF to take up preparatory works immediately so as to ensure actual start of work immediately after the current rainy season in over.
NEC has also informed that it is committed to provide any additional amount even during the current year as required by the work agency BRTF with a consideration on the progress of work.
The Dept of YAS, Govt of Manipur proposed some financial incentives to be given to the outstanding sportspersons of Manipur, particularly those medal winners in the recent Manchester Games, 2002 and other exceptional performances in international events.
The proposal was positively received by NEC which it will consider on receiving a proposal from the State Govt.The Dept of YAS, Govt of Manipur also proposed for NEC assistance in examining the possibility of providing maintenance fund for the various sports infrastructures at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
The NEC was also requested for assistance in setting up a College of Physical Education which will complement the sports academy established at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal i/c secy/NEC was supportive of the same as the establishment of a college of Physical Education alone with the proper functioning of the Sports Academy will ensure that adequate funds for maintenance of the Complex will be available.
The Minister/YAS was assisted in the above meeting by P Vaiphei, IAS, Director/YAS and Aleng Shirorah, Jt Dir/YAS, Govt of Manipur.
Minister/YAS, Manipur attended the closing ceremony of the Inaugural Dr T Ao Doner Football tournament for the North Eastern States, 2003 at Nehru Stadium on 30th May, 2003 as Guest of Honour and thereafter witnessed the final match featuring Manipur and Assam.
In spite of the good performance of the team, they were unfortunate to lose 4-1 on penalties after a goal-less 120 minute play including 30 minutes of extra time.
Minister/YAS, Manipur encourage our players and gave his best wishes in their camp at SAI, Guwahati before the match and there after, before the tie-breaker, even promised them a cash award of Rs 5000 each for every penalty converted and also an equal amount for every penalty saved by our goalkeeper.
