Imphal, December 23 2009:
All Manipur Students' Guardians' Organisation has asserted that modification of the rules and regulations (RRs) laid down by Indian Nursing Council (INC) in connection with the appointment of faculty members in the proposed Nursing College of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is an act of sacrilege.
Addressing a press conference at its Palace Compound office here this afternoon, Organisation general secretary Oinam Yaima Singh categorically stated that modification of the RRs of INC should not be allowed under any circumstances.
He said that his Organisation whole hearted welcome setting up of a Nursing College in RIMS as it would be to the benefit of the people.
But the efforts being made to modify the RRs of INC in connection with appointment of principal, vice principal and other faculty members of the proposed Nursing College is really unfortunate.
He pointed out that as per the instruction of the Supreme Court, the guidelines of any appointment made by the Government should be made known to the public.
However, there has been no transparency in the process of appointing the faculty members right from the post of the principal to the teaching staff of the proposed Nursing College.
So the Organisation could never agree to such appointments.
Taking serious note of the matter, the Organisation had on December 19 filed an application against RIMS authority under Rights to Information Act.
But so far, no response has been given, Yaima lamented.
Maintaining that mushrooming of private hospitals and clinics in the State is a good sign, Yaima, however, hasten to add that imposition of exorbitant charges on poor patients for testing and other facilities in these private hospitals and clinics should be avoided.
The Organisation has also expressed its condolence over the untimely demise of Prof Sanajaoba and shared in the grief of the bereaved family members.
