Police have arrested two activists of the proscribed PREPAK including one who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping and subsequent brutal murder of Baby Lungnila Elizabeth.
Announcing this while talking to mediapersons today, Additional Superintendent of Police of Imphal East District Th Radheshyam said the two PREPAK activists were arrested along with arms during a cordon and search operation conducted by a combined force of Imphal East District Police Commandos and 22 Maratha Light Infantry at Thambalkhong and its surrounding area at around 7 am today.
Identifying the arrested individuals as Chanam Thoiba (29) s/o Chanam Jatra of Thambalkhong Laishram Leikai and Meitankeishangbam Manikanta alias Lukhoi alias Mani (32) s/o late Meitankeishangbam Gulamchat of Meetei Langol, the police officer said Manikanta is an accused in the sensational case of kidnapping for ransom and subsequent murder of Baby Lungnila Elizabeth and cases have been filed against him in this connection.
During the course of the interrogation of the two arrested PREPAK activists, it has also been established that they were behind the firing at the residence of one Executive Engineer Momon of Thambalkhong some time back well as for the subversive activities carried out at Kwakeithel Bazar on December 14 by lobbing a hand grenade at the passing vehicles of BSF troops, the Additional SP informed.
Displaying the arms and ammunition seized from them which include one AK-47 Rifle, two Magazines and 10 live bullets, the police officer further informed that the said arms and ammunition have been recovered from Thoiba's house following their disclosure.
One killed in mishap : A 24 year old youth was killed in a Jeep accident at Wangoi today at about 1 pm.
He died while on the way to RIMS and is identified as Khoirom Suresh of Langthabal Lep Awang Leikai.
The Jeep turned turtle and the victim suffered grievous head and face injuries.
In another incident two motorists were injured when their vehicles collided at Nambol bazar today at about 1 pm.
